A recent report suggested that high HIV infectionrates in sub-Saharan Africa could berelated to unsafe medical procedures (Gisselquist& Potterat, J STD & AIDS 2003;14:162-73). Theseauthors stated that HIV infection rates weremuch higher than expected from sexually transmitteddiseases.
