Abstract
Only a year ago HIV-1 resistance testing was regardedas promising but its role in clinical practicewas still undetermined (Hirsch M et al. JAMA 1998;279:1984-91). A substantial body of evidence hasaccumulated since then indicating that resistancetesting is ready to enter clinical practice in 1999.
