Simian immunodeficiency viruses (SIVs) havebeen described in several species of Africanprimates. Full-length sequences, derived fromdifferent SIV variants, have been phylogeneticallyclassified into six main lineages, includingthe human HIV-1 lineage with groups M, O, andN together with SIVcpz from chimpanzees, aswell as the HIV-2 lineage that clusters withSIVsm from mangabeys.
