During August 2006, four studies on CD4-guidedtherapy interruption were reported: SMART(abstracts WEAB0203 and WEAB0204), BASTA (abstractWEAB02002), and ANRS 116 SALTO (abstractWEAB0205) during the International AIDS Conferencein Toronto, and STACCATO (Ananworanich,et al. Lancet 2006;368:459-65). They are all highlyrelevant for clinical practice, and their results tosome extent provide contradictory messages. Withoutdoubt they have initiated one of the hottestdiscussion subjects in HIV therapy.
